Sand available for residents

News

Residents of Hafnarfjörður can still collect sand from the Service Centre at Norðurhellu 2. The only change is that residents must now bring their own container for the sand.  This change is in line with the City of Hafnarfjörður's stated environmental policy, which includes reducing plastic use.

Snow and ice are on the way, so it's a good idea for everyone to get into the right gear and prepare properly for the winter. Some ice has been forming on roads, footpaths and car parks all over town in recent days, and it's clear that snow and ice will become more common in the coming weeks and months. The City of Hafnarfjörður's Service Centre is on duty almost around the clock for salting and gritting, but that is not always enough.

Sand is available at Norðurhellu 2

Residents of Hafnarfjörður can still collect sand from the Service Centre at Norðurhellu 2. The only change is that residents must now provide their own container (a reusable bag, bucket, or tub) for the sand. In recent years, plastic bags and shovels have been available on site, but from now on, only sand and a shovel will be provided. This change is in line with the City of Hafnarfjörður's stated environmental policy, which aims to reduce plastic use.

We encourage residents to be aware of their local area and to assist with sandbagging to ensure the safety of everyone.
