Soil release

At Bolaöldum, the discharge of reusable, inert material such as soil, gravel and rock is permitted.

Reception in the Bronze Age

The area is located in the Bolaöldar on the slopes of Vífilsfell in the Ölfus municipality. There is a quarry site, and the reception of mineral deposits is being used to reclaim land in old quarries. The quarry site is reached by driving south from the Suðurlandsveg, just west of the Litla Kaffistofan.

What can be released?

Only reusable, inert material such as soil, gravel and rock is permitted to be disposed of. Concrete rubble that has had all protruding iron cut off and been cleared of other materials, for example insulation, cardboard and cladding, may also be disposed of.

It is not permitted to discharge organic waste such as garden waste, animal manure and agricultural residues.

Processing procedure

  1. Upon arrival at Bolaöldur, a member of staff welcomes the customer.
  2. Customers are required to provide information about the nature and origin of the waste.
  3. It is driven to a disposal site where the waste is unloaded.

Smaller waste shipments

Smaller consignments can be brought in Rubbish at Breiðhellu. Residents and small businesses can bring waste for recycling or disposal.

Free waste

Residents do not pay for the disposal of waste from daily household operations, nor for recyclable materials. The disposal of grass, tree branches and garden waste from households, up to 2m³, is free of charge at Sörpa.

Also, the Vatnskarð quarries on Krísuvíkurveg and the Grafa og Grjót site at Tunguhella accept load-bearing aggregates. It is recommended that you contact them before unloading.
