The Service Centre of Hafnarfjörður provides a wide range of services and undertakes various projects for the town, its institutions and residents.

The projects are numerous and often seasonal, for example, maintenance, repairs and inspections of various items belonging to the road network, footpaths, open spaces and playgrounds.

Road network of Hafnarfjörður
The town's road network is approximately 130 km and has grown very rapidly over the last 10 years with the addition of new housing estates in Ásland, Vogar and Hellnahraun. In recent years, there has been a greater emphasis on road safety, with an increase in 30 km/h zones, speed bumps, roundabouts and safe walking routes within and between neighbourhoods.
Street and pathway lighting in Hafnarfjörður
On streets and paths owned by Hafnarfjörður, the street lighting is the property of the City of Hafnarfjörður and the National Road Administration. The City of Hafnarfjörður handles the maintenance and operation of the section belonging to the city with a contractor. The majority of the lighting is LED, and standards for light quality, safety and design are considered when installing new lighting. There can be various reasons why lamps do not work, for example a faulty bulb or lamp, a fault in the cable or in the transformer. The street lighting may also be switched on during the day when maintenance is being carried out.
