Apply for a place

Parents need to contact childminders themselves to find a place. Most childminders have a waiting list for places, so it is a good idea to get in touch well in advance. The City of Hafnarfjörður also subsidises the fees for a place with a childminder outside of Hafnarfjörður.

Once you have chosen a day-care provider, you will make your arrangements with them. You will need to sign both a care agreement with the day-care provider and an agreement for the subsidy from the City of Hafnarfjörður. It is important that you familiarise yourself with the terms and conditions of the care agreement. The mutual notice period for the care agreement is one month, with notice to be given on or before the 1st or 15th of each month. The first month of care is a probationary period.
