After-school club
Children in Years 1–4 can take part in a wide range of extracurricular activities at the after-school clubs at their school from the end of the school day until 4:30 p.m.
Registration for leisure activities
Registering a child for after-school club
You register the child on The leisure website Vala. It is best to submit the registration by 15th June; after this date, applications are placed on a waiting list and will not be processed until August. Registration is valid for one school year at a time (August–June). When completing the registration, it is important to ensure all information is correct, that any special needs are noted, and that you indicate if the child requires support. It is also a good idea to check that all contact details are correct; sometimes an additional contact needs to be added if a child lives in two households.
When a child is offered a place at an after-school club, you will receive an email which must be replied to and accepted within three days, otherwise the place will not be activated. If the confirmation deadline expires, you will need to contact the relevant after-school club for assistance.
If all positions at the after-school club have not been filled when the term begins in the autumn, it is possible that there may be some delay before your child can start.
Terminations and changes
If you need to change your registration or cancel it, you should notify the manager of the leisure centre. It is best to do this by the 15th of the month so that it can take effect from the next month.
Cancellation for the spring term must be notified by 15th December, otherwise the application will be automatically extended.
School holidays and special days
The after-school clubs are closed on all red public holidays and during the primary school winter holiday. In addition, the after-school clubs have two planning days a year.
We are open all day on school planning days and on weekdays during the Easter and Christmas holidays. You need to apply specifically for childcare on these days through Valu leisure system. The department manager will send you further information regarding the application for these days closer to the time.
The job
The role of the after-school club is to offer a wide range of leisure activities for pupils in Years 1–4 after the regular school day ends. The activities are based on choice, group work, workshops and outdoor play. A mid-afternoon snack is provided.
The aim of the after-school clubs is for every child to enjoy themselves and develop in an environment characterised by warmth, safety and respect.
