You apply for a transfer between nurseries in Hafnarfjörður in Valu. Applications must be received by 1 February each year. Transfer requests are processed before main check-in.
The settling-in process at a new nursery school takes place according to the circumstances at each individual nursery; it is most common for it to happen after the summer closure of the nursery.
Moving between municipalities
It is expected that nursery children attend a nursery in the local authority where they are registered. Children who move between local authorities in the capital region can remain at their old nursery for up to 6 months from the date of the change of residence if they are on the waiting list for a nursery in their new local authority. Placement in a nursery school there can be expected within 6 to 12 months.
An extension of nursery attendance is requested through My pages. Consent from the local authority from which the transfer is made must be provided.
Children who move to Hafnarfjörður before the registration age in Hafnarfjörður and are in a nursery or infant nursery in another municipality receive a subsidy equivalent to that of a day-care provider until they reach the registration age.
