The youngest children
The Music School has a preparatory department for children aged 6–9. The aim is to prepare pupils for instrumental study through targeted training in rhythm, note-reading and general music theory. During lessons, pupils sing, dance, play various percussion instruments and learn the recorder.
The school also teaches Suzuki studies where children start at the age of 3–6. Each student attends a 30-minute private lesson once a week and a 60-minute group lesson once a week with 5 students.
Rhythmic Division
Tónkvísl is the rhythm section department of the Hafnarfjörður Music School, where a great emphasis is placed on improvisation and ensemble playing. In addition to receiving instrumental lessons, students attend band practice. At Tónkvísl, students mainly learn to play electric guitar, electric bass, keyboards, jazz piano, percussion and individual wind instruments.
The City of Hafnarfjörður subsidises music tuition in other municipalities if the course is more specialised than that offered by the Hafnarfjörður Music School. The applicant must have met the admission requirements for the relevant music school and be able to provide proof of this.
