Here you can view courses and summer activities run by the City of Hafnarfjörður, as well as information about the Hafnarfjörður Work School. This is an organised programme for children and young people aged 6-16.

Summer activities for nursery school leavers
From 7th to 22nd August, until the start of the school year in the primary schools, A varied and constructive summer programme is offered at all leisure centres in Hafnarfjörður for children in their final year of nursery school or for those starting primary school in the autumn. The courses are similar to the regular summer courses, but with a strong emphasis on outdoor activities, physical exercise, and healthy eating. A special focus is placed on playing a variety of games. The children get the opportunity to familiarise themselves with their after-school club and the school's immediate surroundings, with the aim of increasing their sense of security and well-being at the start of their school career.
- Parents/guardians choose a time that suits them.
- Registration must be completed by midnight on Thursday for a child to start on Monday.
- Supervised drop-in sessions are available from 8-9 am and 12-1 pm on registered days, free of charge for parents and guardians.
- The children bring their lunch from home and a snack for morning and afternoon tea.
- The participation fee is reasonable. Half a day (09:00–12:00 or 13:00–16:00) per week: kr. 3,502. A full day (09:00–16:00) per week: kr. 7,904.
The courses are divided into three parts – you can choose from the following:
- 9 am - 12 pm
- 13:00-16:00
- 9 am - 4 pm
Summer activities for 7–9 year olds
In Hafnarfjörður, summer courses are run in all after-school clubs for children in Years 1–3 (aged 7–9). Summer activities include a varied programme consisting of creative projects, games, physical activities, exciting trips, swimming sessions and group events. The programme may vary depending on the chosen leisure centre. Registration must be completed by midnight on the Thursday before the child is due to start on the Monday. The courses, intended for 7-9 year olds, begin on 10 June and most run until 28 June. Central courses are available in July and August, but all locations will be closed from 22 July to 6 August. From 1 to 19 July, there will be a joint summer club at Hraunvallaskóli and Öldutúnsskóli. From 7th to 22nd August, there will be a joint summer club at Skarðshlíðarskóli and Setbergsskóli.
- Registration must be completed by midnight on Thursdays for a child to start the following Monday. Payment can be made by credit and debit card.
- Parents/guardians choose a time that suits them.
- A group on a course saw the same thing at each location, regardless of the length of the course time on any given day.
- Supervised drop-in sessions are available from 8-9 am and 12-1 pm on registered days, free of charge for parents and guardians. However, we must be notified if your child will be using this time.
- The children bring their lunch from home and a snack for morning and afternoon tea.
- The participation fee is reasonable and can be paid on a weekly basis. A 50% sibling discount is offered when siblings are on the same course in the same week. Half day (9 am – 12 pm or 1 pm – 4 pm): kr. 5,283. Full day (9 am – 4 pm): kr. 10,626. –

Sumarkletturinn for 10–13 year-olds
SumarKletturinn is a leisure activity programme for children in Years 4 to 7 with specific support needs. SumarKletturinn focuses on providing a professional service, guided by the educational value of leisure activities. We aim to work with each individual's strengths and accommodate their different needs. Registration takes place here
A pastime for 10–13 year-olds
Tómstund runs summer courses for children who have just finished Year 4 to Year 7. The main aims of Tómstund are to keep children active during the summer holidays, give them the opportunity to meet other children, discover interesting activities and rekindle old hobbies. Art course at Hafnarborg for 6-12 year olds
Hafnarborg offers art and music courses for children aged 6-12. The fundamentals of art will be introduced through exploring the environment, exhibitions at the museum, and creative work. The projects will be carried out in a variety of media – drawing, painting and sculpting – with the aim of training visual attention, stimulating creative thinking and the participants' personal expression.

Summer reading for all kids
Á Hafnarfjörður Library Summer reading is offered from 1 June to 31 August. All children who can read for themselves can pop into the library to sign up and receive a reading diary.
Hafnarfjörður Labour School
The operations of the Hafnarfjörður Summer School are varied, offering the town's young people fun and educational summer work. Thus, 14-16-year-olds are divided into an environmental group, an arts group, peer education, and a nursery school. At the same time, staff are offered various training courses and educational opportunities. All 14-year-olds who are residents of Hafnarfjörður are offered work every summer until the age of 17.
