People with disabilities have the right to the services and support they need to live an independent and active life. In Hafnarfjörður, there is Servant leadership Kept as a guiding principle. Warmth and encouragement are shown in all situations.
Work and activity
The aim of habilitation, vocational training and sheltered employment is to provide people with disabilities with training and support to enable them to participate in daily life or the labour market. Applications go through The website of the Employment Service.
Employment with support (AMS)
People with reduced working capacity can receive specialised services called Supported employment (AMS). The aim is to help people find suitable employment in the mainstream labour market and to support them in maintaining it. Application for AMS on The website of the Employment Service. Protected work
People with disabilities can apply for a job at a sheltered workshop as is intended to:
- To provide people with disabilities with paid work experience so that they become more employable in the mainstream job market.
- To provide people with disabilities with permanent jobs.
Available resources
Grants for study costs and equipment purchases
People with disabilities can apply for a grant for the cost of training that is not covered by other legislation. The training must have value as training or rehabilitation.
People with disabilities aged 18 and over can also apply for a grant to purchase equipment and tools for home-based work or self-employment, for example a telephone.
