The NKG 2022 Design Cup was awarded to Anna Heiða Óskarsdóttir, Helga Sóley Friðþjófsdóttir and Sveindís Rósa Almarsdóttir of Year 7 at Víðistaðaskóli for their idea, the 'Lýsandi' Jacket. Their teacher is Ásta Sigríður Ólafsdóttir, who this year received the 2022 Primary School Innovation Teacher award.

Idea competition for pupils in Years 5 to 7 of primary school 

The Primary School Innovation Competition is an ideas competition for pupils in Years 5 to 7. The children developed their ideas in workshops over two days, and the competition took place on Saturday, 21 May at the University of Reykjavík. The Ministry of Education and Culture is the owner of the Primary School Innovation Competition. The Faculty of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Iceland manages the competition in collaboration with Reykjavík University, the Association of Icelandic Municipalities, Arion Bank, the Federation of Icelandic Industries, ELKO, IKEA, primary schools, etc. The Patron of the Primary School Innovation Competition is the President of the Republic, Guðni Th. Jóhannesson.
