Applications are invited for a grant from the Friðrik Bjarnason and Guðlaug Pétursdóttir Fund. The purpose of the fund is to promote the musical life of Hafnarfjörður and to support students from Hafnarfjörður for postgraduate study in music, and music scholars.

The applicant shall provide a detailed description of their studies or proposed project. The application deadline has been extended to 27 November 2017, which is Friðrik's birthday. Applications should be submitted to My pages on hafnarfjordur.is.

In a will from 1960, the couple Friðrik Bjarnason and Guðlaug Pétursdóttir bequeathed a large part of their assets to the City of Hafnarfjörður and stipulated that books and items should be preserved in the library and that a fund should be established to „to promote musical life in Hafnarfjörður in whatever way is considered best at any given time, with particular emphasis on promoting choral singing in the town“, and „to support students in musical studies and music scholars“. Grants are awarded in December.

The board of the fund for 2017 consists of:
Andrés Þór Gunnlaugsson
Helga Loftsdóttir
Ingibjörg Þorsteinsdóttir
