Spring clean-up of plots – garden waste collected from homes
Residents are encouraged to clear their plots and place garden waste from outside the property boundary in reasonably heavy bags, and to tie up twigs and branches in bundles, starting now in early May. Staff from the City of Hafnarfjörður's service centre will be out and about collecting the garden waste.
Residents are encouraged to clear their plots and place garden waste from outside their property boundaries in reasonably heavy bags, and to tie up twigs and branches in bundles, starting at the beginning of May. Staff from the City of Hafnarfjörður's Service Centre will be out and about to collect the garden waste on the following days:
- 9 May – North, West, Hraun and Centre
- 14 May – Setberg, Kinnar and Hvammar
- 22 May – Ásland, Vellir and Holtin
- See attached map
Residents are encouraged to have their garden waste placed outside their property boundary for the designated collection days for each respective neighbourhood. Garden waste will not be collected in those neighbourhoods after the specified day has passed.
Please note that all garden waste must be in bags, and bear in mind that reasonably weighted bags (maximum 20 kg) make the clean-up easier for our staff. Large quantities of garden waste from major on-site projects, such as the felling of large trees, will not be collected. The service is intended for minimal pruning of trees and shrubs, for example, to ensure that vegetation does not obstruct traffic or visibility on footpaths and pavements.
Residents are encouraged to make use of this council service because after the spring clean-up of plots ends, plot holders themselves must take garden waste to SORPA recycling centres. It is also ideal to collect garden waste over the summer in a compost heap in a convenient place in the garden and use it for composting.
Please note that collection does not apply to loose soil, timber, metals and waste materials.
