Spring cleaning starts tomorrow!
Sweeping of streets, pavements and footpaths in Hafnarfjörður begins tomorrow, Tuesday 9th April. Last year, sweeping began around the same time, but the weather has started to get quite good for spring work. The town is divided into 15 districts, and these are signposted the day before sweeping with notice of the planned operation. At the same time, the central islands will be washed.

Let's take an active part and ensure a good sweep!
We ask residents to take an active part so that the results are as good as possible. It is essential that the streets are clear of cars on the day they are swept, so that the kerb edges can be swept. Residents and business staff can take the opportunity to sweep around their own premises. This will make the whole area look much tidier.
Zonal redistribution of suction
A work schedule is followed which includes sweeping all neighbourhoods between 9th April and 3rd May. The schedule can be seen in the image below, and residents can plan their own garden and immediate surroundings around this schedule. The work plan is subject to change, primarily due to weather (frost) and delays with the contractor responsible for the sweeping. A small street sweeper (small) follows the large street sweeper in the neighbourhoods. The kerb-sweeper attends to all the bays in the streets that the street sweeper cannot reach, as well as sweeping the pavements. The kerb-sweeper therefore tries to follow the same schedule as the street sweeper but may take longer to complete its work. Each neighbourhood is signposted the day before, announcing the sweeping will take place the following day.
