We encourage residents and business staff to take an active part by sweeping up in their local area and, in particular, by keeping cars off the streets of the areas being swept each time.
The sweeping of streets, pavements and footpaths in Hafnarfjörður began on Monday, 3rd April. Last year, it started in mid-April, but this year we did even better and began sweeping at the start of April, despite the weather causing some disruption in the last week. The town is divided into 14 neighbourhoods, and these are signposted the day before sweeping with notice of the planned work. At the same time, islands will be washed. The first area was swept on Monday, 3rd April, and the spring clean will continue until 27th April. However, please bear in mind that the weather may continue to have an impact.
Let's take an active part and ensure a good sweep!
We ask residents to take an active part so that the results are as good as possible. It is essential that the streets are clear of cars on the day they are swept, so that the kerb edges can be swept. Residents and business staff can take the opportunity to sweep around their own premises. This will make the whole area look much tidier.
Zonal redistribution of suction
A work schedule is being followed which involves sweeping all neighbourhoods between 3 and 27 April. The schedule can be seen in the image below, and residents can plan their own schedules and those of their immediate surroundings around this timetable. The work plan is subject to change, primarily due to weather (frost) and delays with the contractor responsible for the sweeping. A kerb-sweeper (small) follows the street-sweeper (large) around the neighbourhoods. The kerb-sweeper is responsible for reaching into all the street corners that the street-sweeper cannot, as well as sweeping the pavements. The kerbside sweeper therefore tries to follow the same schedule as the street sweeper but may take longer to complete its work. Each neighbourhood is posted the day before to announce the sweeping will take place the following day.
