Staff get a bicycle for a trial
The Environment and Operations Committee recently agreed to purchase four electric bikes and lend them to staff at Hafnarfjörður Municipality for a trial. This health-promoting project aims to introduce e-bikes as a convenient mode of transport, in the hope that more, and indeed as many people as possible, will start to use this means of travel.
In recent years, the municipality has significantly increased its snow clearance services and will focus this winter on keeping the main walking routes clear.- and cycle routes open as part of the council's health-promoting journey, thereby paving the way for those who already cycle and wish to make it their year-round mode of transport. This should enable cyclists to get around town with relative ease, as well as cycle to work and/or services in other municipalities.
An introduction to the project for staff at Hafnarfjörður municipality is currently underway, and everyone has an equal chance of being allocated a bike. The trial period for each bike is about a month.
