The town's staff compete in golf
The annual golf tournament for staff and councillors of the City of Hafnarfjörður was held in mild and fine weather at the Keili Golf Club in mid-August. Nearly 90 staff from various council departments, as well as councillors, signed up to play and gave it their all.

Nearly 90 staff from various council departments, as well as councillors, signed up to play and gave it their all. The tournament is a traditional stableford competition with handicap and a stroke play final for the golf champion. Competition took place on both the 18-hole Hvaleyrarvellir course and the 9-hole Sveinsskotsvellir course, and both beginners and avid fans of the sport were encouraged to take part. Nearest the pin prizes were awarded on all four par-three holes at Hvaleyrarvellir, and on the 1st and 9th holes at Sveinskot, in addition to a prize for the best course management, based on the fewest strokes.

Halldór Ingólfsson defeated Lúðvík Geirsson on the second hole of a play-off for 1st place at Hvaleyrarvellir.

Nearness prizes were awarded on the par-3 holes at Hvaleyrarvellir.

Participation this year exceeded the brightest hopes and expectations, and this year's tournament was the best-attended one to date. Whether this indicates a growing interest in the sport of golf, or the increased skill and enthusiasm of the staff, is for others to judge. The staff golf tournament is here to stay, and a large group is already looking forward to next year's event and planning their winter training. It also helps that Hafnarfjörður is home to one of the country's finest golf courses.
