Swims – A National Swimming Initiative, is a continuation of European Week of Sport. Objective European Week of Sport is to promote sports and physical activity throughout Europe and thus counteract the increasing sedentary lifestyle of the general public. Recent years have shown beyond doubt that good health is priceless.
There is much that each of us can do to improve and maintain our body and soul, and every little bit helps. Icelanders have been keen swimmers, as we are well-served with good swimming pools all over the country. Swimming is for everyone, regardless of age, background or physical condition, and is an ideal form of exercise that strengthens the cardiovascular system, lungs and muscles. It is also a fantastic and enjoyable pastime that the whole family can do together.
