Swimming pools, sports centres and museums closed

News

From Tuesday, 24th March, the municipality's swimming pools and museums will be closed. This includes all three swimming pools, the Hafnarfjörður Library, the Hafnarfjörður Folk Museum and the Hafnarborg Museum.

Swimming pools, sports centres and museums closed following stricter rules on gatherings

The Health Minister has decided, in line with a recommendation from the Chief Medical Officer, to further restrict gatherings due to the faster spread of Covid-19 in the community. Events where people gather will be limited to 20 people instead of the previous 100. Wherever people gather and in all activities, it must be ensured that a distance of at least 2 metres can be maintained between individuals.

These instructions affect local authority services:

  • All swimming pools, sports centres, museums and libraries in the capital region will be closed from midnight on 23 March.
  • Schools and nurseries will remain open, but parents or guardians who for any reason do not send their children to school must notify the school, just as they would for a period of absence, and will thereby assume responsibility for their children's homework.
  • Other services of the local authorities will continue to be maintained as far as possible.
