Walks in the uplands are exceptionally nourishing and calming.

In collaboration with the health capital of Hafnarfjörður, the popular Hafnarfjörður Scavenger Hunt is now underway for the 24th time. The game involves participants finding 27 locations, marked on a high-quality scavenger hunt map, spread across the town. Participants have the whole of summer 2021 to search for these locations, which feature prominent scavenger hunt markers. Some of the locations are within the town and others are in the surrounding countryside. The aim of the scavenger hunt is, among other things, to get people to appreciate and experience how precious and beautiful the local environment is here in Hafnarfjörður. The scavenger hunt maps are available free of charge from many locations, including Fjarðarkaup, the Hafnarfjörður Library, Hafnarfjörður Town Hall, swimming pools and petrol stations. The game runs until 20 September.

This year's theme is the eruption on the Reykjanes Peninsula.

The theme of this year's geocache should come as no surprise: it is the eruption on the Reykjanes Peninsula, and lava and lava formations. Participants are led to numerous lava fields and given information about them, including their age and name. Hönnunarhúsið ehf. is publishing the game in collaboration with the City of Hafnarfjörður, and it is Guðni Gíslason who is laying out the course. Ómar Smári Ármannsson, an archaeologist and tour guide, compiled the various points of interest found on the scavenger hunt map. Ómar has provided invaluable assistance with the game's creation over the past few years. He runs the information website Ferlir.is, which contains a vast amount of information on the natural history and human settlement of the Reykjanes Peninsula and beyond.

A perfect game for the whole family – you don't have to visit all the places.

The game is an ideal way for individuals and family members of all ages to socialise and have fun, while also being a fantastic way to learn more about the rich history, unspoilt and diverse nature, and wildlife that Hafnarfjörður has to offer. It is not a requirement to visit all the locations on the map, although in recent years the experience has been that most people who submit solutions have visited all 27 locations. The game is divided into three categories: Lightfoot, Hiking Hero and Challenge King. Those who submit 9 solutions can receive the honorary title of Lightfoot of the Hafnarfjörður Scavenger Hunt, and those who submit 18 solutions can receive the honorary title of Hiking Hero of the Hafnarfjörður Scavenger Hunt. Those who submit all 27 solutions can then receive the honorary title of Ratleiks Hafnarfjarðar's Challenge King. Three from each category will be drawn at the game's awards ceremony in the autumn.

Further information and facts can be found on the scavenger hunt's website. ratleikur.fjardarfrettir.is However, you can also find two versions of the Little Rat Game of Hafnarfjörður there; to take part in it, you don't need a map.
