Great emphasis has been placed on lowering the operating costs of the City of Hafnarfjörður without compromising services for its residents.
Great emphasis has been placed on lowering the operating costs of the City of Hafnarfjörður without compromising services for its residents. One of the elements of the council's reform process is an increase in the tendering of outsourced services. Recently, services including insurance, auditing, school transport, comprehensive printing solutions, food production, and cleaning were put out to tender. The annual saving from tendering these services is estimated at just over 111 million, compared to the current contracts. Over the total four-year contract period, the saving is just over 443 million.
The cleaning aspect is the most important.
Following a detailed review of the operations of the Municipality of Hafnarfjörður, it was decided to launch a tender for purchased services that constitute a significant part of the municipality's operations. The tender results reveal a financial saving of kr. 110,839,461 in the next financial year, or a total of kr. 443,357,844 over the four-year contract period. The cleaning element accounts for the largest share of this, with savings of over 89 million króna, making a total of over 357 million króna over the contract period. The reason for the reduction is, in part, the switch to environmentally friendly soft wax cleaning, as well as the fact that the annual deep clean will be carried out differently. The savings from the review amount to 56% compared to the 2014 real cost, or nearly 5.8 million on an annual basis. A new tender for the City of Hafnarfjörður's comprehensive insurance will result in savings of just over 13 million króna per year, or around 54 million króna over the term of the contract. Savings in printing solutions and school transport amount to just over one million króna per year for each item.
It is planned to tender more services in the new financial year, thereby establishing a regular and consistent tendering process within the municipality. These tendering measures by the City of Hafnarfjörður are part of the rationalisation and improvement of the municipality's operations. By reducing operating costs, more scope is created for projects and for even better services for the area's residents and businesses.
