Show gratitude in a symbolic way through action

This year, the nation's litter pickers want to turn their tongs on the country's healthcare institutions, hospitals, health centres, and residential and nursing homes, and thus show their gratitude in action, as the staff and management of these healthcare institutions have been under great pressure for weeks. Svavar Hávarðsson, one of the country's most active litter pickers, put forward this idea within the group and it was very well received. The idea is symbolic. It is not that there is more litter to be found around the country's healthcare institutions than elsewhere, but by taking part in a litter pick around these institutions, we, the people of the country, can show our gratitude in this symbolic way. But there will be litter picks in more places, and people can create events on social media, link them to Plokk á Íslandi, get branding from Plokk á Íslandi and encourage people to take part both in their own neighbourhoods and at the nearest major transport infrastructure, depending on their time and ability.

The Plokktrix in the Book

  1. Find an area to pick up litter and encourage the family to take part.
  2. Create an event in your own neighbourhood or join an existing one.
  3. Get yourself a bin bag, gloves and picking tongs. Bags can be collected from the Customer Service Centre and Hafnarfjörður Service Centre on Wednesday 22 April and Friday 24 April.
  4. Dress for the occasion.
  5. Observe the lockdown and maintain the two-metre rule.
  6. Send a picture and information through Hafnarfjörður's feedback portal or take the rubbish to the Terra container at Krónan on Flatahraun.
  7. Take the utmost care and urge children to leave needles and other dangerous items alone, but to report them to parents or guardians so they can be removed.

A lockdown is just perfect for tackling the litter.

The 2020 picking season is officially underway!
