Thanks, Rósa – Farewell after nearly 20 years in local politics
Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir, former mayor and councillor for nearly 20 years, has stepped down from her role as a councillor for us residents of Hafnarfjörður after almost two decades.
Representing our town's residents for nearly two decades
Councillor Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir has attended her final council meeting, stepping down after nearly two decades as our councillor for Hafnarfjörður. She has sat 400 meetings of the council and 350 in the town council. Rosa's handiwork can be seen all over the town.
„What I am most proud of from my work on the town council is precisely how Hafnarfjörður has really put itself on the map in recent years as a vibrant town with a thriving culture and a wide range of entertainment, which draws people to our beautiful town centre,„ she says on her Facebook page for this occasion.
„It has been a priority to increase opportunities for enjoyment in the town centre and to strengthen it for that purpose, for the residents and visitors of Hafnarfjörður,“ said Rósa. The lively Bæjarbíó, the Christmas Town, the Heart of Hafnarfjörður and events that attract tens of thousands.
„It has also been very important to me to tidy up and beautify the town; every little detail matters in that respect,“ she says, "and Hafnarfjörður is gorgeous.".
Rósa is well-versed in local politics here in Hafnarfjörður. She took her seat on the Hafnarfjörður Town Council in 2006, became chair of the town board in 2014, and mayor in 2018, serving until the end of 2024. She was again chair of the town council for the final term. She now sits on the Althingi, the national parliament. She was a substitute MP for the Independence Party from 2007 to 2009 and sat in parliament for several months during that period. She has been active in various social causes.
