Eco-friendly in Hafnarfjörður

The vast majority of Swan-certified flats in the country are located in Hafnarfjörður, accounting for around 57% of them. This is according to the Swan's website, which recently awarded the contractor Þarfaþing ehf. its first Swan licence for a new-build project in Hafnarfjörður.

The Swan's website states that it has proven to be a really good incentive for the local council to offer discounts on plot and infrastructure charges for environmentally certified buildings.

Based on the latest Swan standard

The contractor Þarfaþing ehf. has now received its first Swan Label for a new-build project in Hafnarfjörður. The company has previously taken part in Projects with Swan certification as the main contractor, but this is the first time it has been responsible for the project as a whole. This is also stated on the Swan's website.

This is only the second time in the country that a project has received Swan Certification under the new-build criteria, version 4 – the latest version of the criteria. It includes stricter and more ambitious requirements for building materials, energy efficiency, air quality and the overall environmental impact of buildings.

They took on greater responsibilities

The Swan's website states that Tharfaþing was one of the first companies to apply for this edition. The company did so despite still being able to apply for Edition 3. This shows great ambition, foresight and vision when it comes to environmental issues and the quality of buildings.

„This decision shows that the company regards sustainability and quality as intertwined elements in all its operations,“ says Bergþóra Góa Kvaran, an expert at the Swan in Iceland. „This is not only an environmentally friendly step, but also a strategic decision that increases professional advantage and valuable experience within the company.“

Quality in Swan-certified apartments

  • Svanurinn places great emphasis on the quality of buildings – not least with regard to daylight and indoor living conditions. Research shows that better daylight has a positive effect on the well-being and health of occupants, and this requirement has, among other things, been tightened in Version 4. See the article for more details: Improved daylight in Swan-certified buildings.
  • The number of Swan-certified properties is constantly increasing, and it is now possible to find them all over the country. In total, there are now more than 400 certified properties. This is therefore the first time that there is a real opportunity for buyers to choose environmentally certified housing.
  • With this first Swan licence, Þarfaþing confirms that environmental matters, quality and professionalism are the guiding principles in all its operations – and this undoubtedly marks only the beginning of more green and high-quality projects by the company.
