Sports and Awards Gala 2019 – our athletes

The Hafnarfjörður Town Council and the Sports and Leisure Committee are holding an awards ceremony for athletes competing with teams from Hafnarfjörður, Awards for Icelandic champions, cup winners, Nordic champions, world champions and special achievements, along with the selection of Hafnarfjörður's sportswoman, sportsman and sports team of the year 2019.

Awards and selection of the 2019 Sportspeople of the Year

Over 300 individuals who have won Icelandic championship titles with a Hafnarfjörður team in 2019 are being recognised at the ceremony. A fund, established by Rio Tinto in Iceland, the Hafnarfjörður Sports Association (ÍBH) and the Municipality of Hafnarfjörður, will be allocated to support sports activities for under-18s, and a continuation agreement will also be signed. Awards will be presented to cup champions and those who have won international titles. The Hafnarfjörður Sports Association receives an award from the Icelandic Sports Federation (ÍSÍ) as a model sports region. The sportswoman, sportsman and sports team of Hafnarfjörður will be chosen, with a total of ten nominations submitted in each category. The 2019 Hafnarfjörður Team will be named.

All residents are welcome and the celebration will take place in the sports hall on Strandgata at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, 27th December.
