Free orienteering map

Those who want to take part in Hafnarfjörður Treasure Hunt You can get a free orienteering map, which is available from, for example, the library, N1 petrol stations, Fjarðarkaup, the town hall and elsewhere. The map features 27 marked locations, and the game is divided into three difficulty levels: Lightfoot, Hiking Hero and Puzzle King. However, it is entirely up to the individual how they choose to play.

Participants are encouraged to register for Facebook group of the game, and post photos and accounts of the participation. Using the map as their weapon, participants search for scavenger hunt markers, which contain solution words that they record on their scavenger hunt map. For this reason, it is important that these solution words are never visible in shared photos.

27 signs, far and wide across the townscape and beyond

Sheep's Hill Shelter

The markers are spread far and wide across the town, and this year we've also ventured into Garðabær and even Kópavogur! They are at locations with a story to tell, which you can read about on the scavenger hunt map. However, the geocache sites are not the main thing; it's the journey to them that counts, so it's important to allow yourself plenty of time and discover what is hidden in our surroundings.
