Ásvallabraut closed for a month

The closure period is from 18 April to 16 May.

New neighbourhoods and the expansion of Hafnarfjörður involve construction work with associated impacts and closures. Ásvallabraut, from the roundabout at Kaldárselsveg to Aftantorg at Skarðshlíð, will be closed from 18 April until 16 May. The reason is the construction of a new roundabout for the entrance to Ásland 4 and the entire road over the hill will be closed while the work is in progress. Diversions are via Ásvallabraut and Ásbraut to the Reykjanesbraut, or via Kaldárselsveg to the Flóttamannaleið, or via Hvaleyrarvatnsveg to Kaldárselsveg.

The green route is a diversion via Ásvallabraut and Ásbraut onto the Reykjanesbraut, or via Kaldárselsveg onto the Flóttamannaleið. The yellow route is a diversion via Hvaleyrarvatnsveg onto Kaldárselsveg.

Information about the lane closure will be put up at the roundabouts on both sides of the lane.

Hafnarfjörður is expanding

The new Ásvallabraut in Hafnarfjörður opened to traffic in October 2021 and immediately became an important part of the town's transport network, as the road connects the residential areas on either side of Ásfjall. Plots in the first phase of the Ásland 4 development have recently been allocated, and construction has already begun in the area, including roadworks and pipe installation. Ásland 4 is a residential area, a continuation of the neighbourhoods on either side, namely Ásland 3 and new residential areas in Skarðshlíð and Hamranes.
