„We can't wait to see the new library open on the second floor of the building,“ says Gudmundur Bjarni. A number of shops will be in the new Firði, including Gina Tricot, Lindex, A4, Kona, Skóhöllin, a health and beauty shop, Augastaður, Leikfangaland and a menswear shop. There will also be a gourmet food shop in Firði.
„It will be cosy to come into Fjörður in the run-up to Christmas,“ says Guðrún María. The father and daughter have been working together for the last three years on the development. „I'm the one with the plan and Dad has the ideas. We're a perfect team. I'm the one who keeps him grounded,“ she says, laughing. He looks up.
„I do the practical work and she tells me what's realistic,“ says Gudmundur. „We work particularly well together.“ Gudmundur says the shopping centre will then be the only one in the country connected to a shopping street, Strandgatan, where there are a number of other shops.
„Yes, we look forward to welcoming the people of Hafnarfjörður.“ Guðrún María continues: „The atmosphere will be relaxed. It will be a pleasant place to come and a meeting point for the town's residents, who will be able to spend the whole day here.“
But can the two separate work and family life? They laugh. „We go out to eat with my mum and sister and my dad and I talk about work. They don't like it,“ she says.
„The work is a shared passion. I'm not into Crossfit or horses, I'm into the work, and it means even more working with my dad,“ says Guðrún, and he agrees. But what when there's nothing left to do? „Then we'll find a new project,“ says Guðmundur, smiling.
