Nomination in the category of public websites
City of Hafnarfjörður website hafnarfjordur.is is nominated for the Icelandic Web Awards as the Official Website of the Year 2022, along with four other websites. Sixty-five projects are nominated for the 2022 Web Awards in thirteen categories, reflecting the breadth of projects involved in the Icelandic web industry. The winners will be announced at a ceremony at Gamla bíó on the evening of Friday, 31 March.
Emphasis on good content
The City of Hafnarfjörður's new website was launched on 10 November with a digital conference at the Bæjarbíó, following thorough preparation. The previous website had, however, served the town well since 2016 and won the Icelandic Web Awards as the best public website at the start of 2017. However, much has changed in the last six years; the town now has a new identity and a new design system, which the new website takes into account, among other things. A large group of staff were involved in the needs analysis, development and creation of the new website, in addition to reviews and testing from residents and other users. Particular emphasis was placed on the website's content, a powerful search engine, a clear navigation system and interactivity in the form of calculators, look-up tools and content filters.
The story behind the new website can be read in A project history of the town's digital transformation
A great honour and encouragement for the municipality
It is the Internet Industry Association, SVEF, that awards the web awards each year. It is a great honour and encouragement for the municipality and the large group of participants in the project to receive this nomination from SVEF and the professionals involved in the Icelandic Web Awards. The nomination is a strong indication that the new website is fulfilling its important purpose and objectives of providing simple and clear access to information about the council's services and projects for all relevant parties.
