Emergency Call 2025 has arrived in Hafnarfjörður.

News

Mayor Valdimar Víðisson received the Hafnarfjörður Emergency Call today. The Borough of Hafnarfjörður supports the Hafnarfjörður Rescue Squad by purchasing the Emergency Call.

A distress call we all hear!

The City of Hafnarfjörður is supporting the Hafnarfjörður Rescue Squad by purchasing the 'Neyðarkallinn'. This year's 'Neyðarkallinn' is a whitewater rescue swimmer, in memory of Sigurður Kristófer McQuillan Óskarsson, who died during a rescue training exercise last year.

Hafnarfjörður is proud to have staff within its ranks who work selflessly and diligently for the benefit of the rescue teams in Iceland.

Mayor Valdimar Víðisson received the Hafnarfjörður emergency call today. The sale of the Emergency Call will take place from 5th to 9th November 2025.

The emergency call has arrived at the town hall and is in the hands of the mayor.

Annual fundraising campaign

The Call for Help is a fundraising campaign in which all the country's rescue teams take part, and it accounts for about a quarter of their total income. The public can expect to see people in rescue team uniforms in all major locations.

December is the busiest time for the rescue services, as it is when the biggest fundraisers take place, in addition to their regular operations and calls-outs, which rarely give any warning.

Emergency call for 20 years

The emergency call of the rescue teams has a long history. The campaign began in 2006, and this is therefore the 20th time the rescue teams have offered the public the chance to support their work by purchasing an Emergency Call.

The profit from the sale goes to rescue squads and accident prevention units, and is used to enhance and strengthen their work.
