Final touches on Nordurgarður – Works to be completed in May
Construction work is beginning on the North Bank. Work on this final finishing will continue until the beginning of May.
Finishing touches at Nordurgard
Work on the finishing touches in the Nordurbakki area is largely complete. The final phase is the reconstruction of the Nordurgarður. This is stated in a letter to the residents of Nordurbakki, which they are now receiving through their letterboxes.
„The garden was concreted last summer and now, at the beginning of February, work will begin on the final finishing of the garden and its immediate surroundings.
A timber deck will be built over the garden, with seating platforms on the stone-filled area to the east. The garden will be easily accessible to everyone, and safety measures will be in place with a handrail on the deck itself and on the access path.
At the far end of the garden, a new navigation light will be built, along with a viewing and fishing platform and an equipped seating area. The garden and seating platforms will be well-lit. Above the garden, a viewing platform will be established.
Work completed in early May
Work on this final finishing will continue until the beginning of May. It is primarily construction work, and there will be little to no disruption in the immediate vicinity. Plant machinery will be on site for the first few weeks while the foundations for the seating platforms are completed. Timber and other building materials will need to be transported to the site in early February, but the construction site will be fenced off above the garden.
The coastal path will be open to all traffic, pedestrians, runners and cyclists during the works. The project is scheduled for completion in early May.
“We thank residents for their understanding during the works," says the letter from Hafnarfjarðarhöfn and the City of Hafnarfjörður.
