Hafnarfjörður Municipality and the coach company Teitur Jónasson Ltd. have made an agreement on a scheduled service between Bláfjöll and Hafnarfjörður when weather permits and the ski area is open. A proposal for a Bláfjöll bus from Hafnarfjörður is one of the proposals of the Hafnarfjörður Youth Council which were presented at the town council meeting in spring 2020 and approved by the Transfer Council for the year 2021.
The stop is Hafnarfjörður Ski Club.
First journey from Flatahrauni at 15:50 on Tuesday, 2nd February
The plan is for the Blue Mountain bus to run one journey a day from the Hafnarfjörður Snowboard Club at Flatahraun 14, via Mjódd and Rauðavatn (subject to weather and the mountain being open). It was deemed appropriate that a bus stop in Hafnarfjörður is the place where the winter activities of children and young people on snowboards and skateboards are in full swing every day. The shuttle will run according to the ski area timetable. The base fare is kr. 3,000 per passenger for both ways. A single journey costs kr. 2,700, and a 10-trip card costs kr. 26,000. The bus is scheduled to depart from BFH at 15:50 on all weekdays and 12:20 at weekends. The contract with Teit stipulates a minimum number of passengers per journey, and the municipality commits to a payment of kr. 15,000 for each call-out if the minimum number of 8 passengers is not reached. For additional journeys outside the ski areas' timetable, the requirement is 19 passengers per journey. The contract is open-ended and can be terminated with six months' notice.

„It is pleasing to see this proposal from the youth council become a reality. Our young people know best what services they need, and it is our job as their representatives to listen to their ideas and implement them as we are able. Another of their ideas about School Fitness Park in Hafnarfjörður This was put into practice at the end of summer 2020 with the opening of such a trail at Hörðuvellir. The group of people from Hafnarfjörður who ski and snowboard is growing rapidly, and it is important to be able to encourage this growth and improve access to the mountain in this way.“ says Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir, Mayor of Hafnarfjörður, at the signing of the agreement today.
About the Hafnarfjörður Boarding Club
Hafnarfjörður Ski Club was founded in 2012 and the club's original aim was to establish an indoor facility for skateboarding. The club has grown rapidly and is now run with four sections: a skateboarding section, a snowboarding section, a BMX section and a mountain biking section. The club has around 400 members taking part in organised training, aged between 5 and 18, but many more children and young people also use the indoor facility every day.
