The Fork Theatre is to be housed in the Innovation Centre by the Stream.
„We are going to lead first-class creative work for children from Hafnarfjörður,“ says Björk Jakobsdóttir, managing director and director of the Gaflar Theatre, which has secured a space in the Innovation Centre by the Stream.
Theatre and creativity at the Innovation Centre
„We are going to lead first-class creative work for children in Hafnarfjörður,“ says Björk Jakobsdóttir, managing director and director of the Gaflar Theatre. The theatre has signed an agreement with the City of Hafnarfjörður for the use of rehearsal, teaching and office facilities at the Innovation Centre by the Stream.
Björk is also now establishing Gafló, the Gaflar Theatre School, increasing the provision of drama classes and courses for children and young people in Hafnarfjörður. „Now we can start teaching at Gafló again and, at the same time, prepare for the winter's shows,“ says Björk, looking forward to the winter with great anticipation, as four shows are set to go on stage.
Priceless for Hafnarfjörður
Mayor Valdimar Víðisson says it is really pleasing to see the Gaflar Theatre finding a permanent home in the Innovation Centre. „It is invaluable for a town like Hafnarfjörður to have such a strong theatre facility for children and young people,” he says.
„The Fork Theatre has long been a part of the town's cultural heart, and the revival of the drama school will give future generations the opportunity to create, learn and enjoy. This collaboration empowers the children of Hafnarfjörður and the arts scene in Hafnarfjörður.
Lots on the go this winter
Björk says three to four shows on the theatre stages this winter. „It's a dynamic winter ahead. Four shows are heading to the stage.". Empty happiness, which was a hit last year, is returning to the stage at the City Theatre. Christmas in your pyjamas will be on in Tjarnarbíó during Advent. The play No idea, a new work with young artists, is going on the small stage at the City Theatre in January. So we are in talks with Bæjarbíó to stage a brilliant show there,“ she says.
„But first, we are concentrating on settling into our new place and look forward to welcoming children and young people from Hafnarfjörður, to teach them how to have fun, create together and enjoy themselves. The motto for Gafló is joy, creativity, quality.“
- The leisure grant from the town can be used for courses that are 10 weeks or longer.
Congratulations to everyone on the increased availability of leisure activities in Hafnarfjörður.
