Focus on a slower pace in schoolwork
Headteachers and deputy headteachers in Kraganum, Seltjarnarnes, Mosfellsbær, Kópavogur, Garðabær and Hafnarfjörður met at Bæjarbíó on 8 May to listen to the talk 'Hæglæti in School Life'.
Kristín Dýrfjörð and Anna Magnea Hreinsdóttir discussed the philosophy of slow pedagogy in nursery education, with an emphasis on the value of time, perception and balance in the learning of young children.
Slowness for a conscious choice
Based on research which shows that the pace and pressure of school life can reduce well-being, creativity and connections. Slow pace, as a professional attitude, involves a conscious choice to cultivate deeper connections with children, the curriculum and the work environment by reducing unnecessary haste and stress.
The Stilla development project, which is being carried out in collaboration between four nurseries and the higher education community, was also presented. The aim is to enhance the gentle pace of nursery work with an emphasis on reflection, professional dialogue and democratic leadership. Plenty of time was given over to discussion and to reflecting on the gentle pace.
It was a great morning, not only for listening to the talks and learning, but also for meeting colleagues, forging stronger connections and grabbing a coffee!
