The music and town festival, “Heart of Hafnarfjörður', begins at the Bæjarbíó today. In just a few years, the festival has established itself in Hafnarfjörður and has become part of the summer programme for both the town's residents and its visitors.
On this occasion, Mayor Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir dedicated a flower-adorned heart in the heart of Hafnarfjörður on Strandgata, with the material for the decoration provided by the Hafnarfjörður Forestry Association.
The heart is also a bench for visitors in the town centre to sit on, and it is an ideal spot for taking a photo with a beautiful background, facing towards Vesturgata or looking down Strandgata. We encourage visitors to head into the city centre for a photo opportunity, snap a picture and post it under the hashtag #hjartahafnarfjarðar
The Strandgata will be lively this summer. In addition to the heart, a zebra crossing has been painted in rainbow colours. This was done at the initiative of the young people at the Vinnuskólinn, who also painted some pavement posts in bright, summery colours by Hafnarborg. In addition, a “Thank You' wall was recently painted on the gable end of the house at 4 Strandgata, and it is visible to everyone passing along Strandgata and Reykjavíkurvegur.
There is therefore every reason to visit the centre of Hafnarfjörður this summer and explore the colourful and vibrant Strandgata, where music, culture, dining and shopping flourish.
This year's “Heart of Hafnarfjörður' programme is as splendid as ever, featuring some of the biggest names in Icelandic pop music of recent decades. Among others: Mannakorn, Stjórnin, Björgvin Halldórsson and Ný Dönsk. Further information is available. Find on the website and The Bæjarbíó Facebook page.
