Now on the Thirteenth – the thirteenth and final day of Christmas – the staff of Hafnarfjörður would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for the warm and pleasant company during Advent and over the Christmas period. Hafnarfjörður has seldom been so festive and beautiful, and that is thanks to the concerted efforts of everyone: residents, businesses and staff. Please note that due to the gathering restrictions, Christmas will not be bid farewell with a Threttándan celebration at Ásvellir for the second year running.

Best Decorated Houses and Best Decorated Street 2021
In the week before Christmas, there were Awards presented for the best decorated houses and the best decorated street in Hafnarfjörður.. Once again, the residents of Furuvellir 13-25 received the award shield for the best-decorated street. Furuvellir is a veritable Christmas street, and it's impossible not to get into the festive spirit when you visit. Lækjarhvammur was also recognised and praised for a beautifully decorated street in Hvammarnir, and Svöluás 2–32 received an award for a tasteful and beautiful street.

Heart swelling
During Advent, a long-held dream of many for an ice rink in the health spa town of Hafnarfjörður became a reality when the Hjartasvellið opened in the town centre in collaboration with Bæjarbíó. Christmas has therefore spread throughout the town centre, and the Christmas town of Hafnarfjörður has shone brighter than ever, attracting visitors from all over. The Heart Rink has been well received, and 3,000 people have taken to the ice since it opened in mid-December. The Heart Slippery is a fantastic activity, experience and form of exercise for the whole family and will be open at least until January. You can book a skate session at heart-swelling.is but the first journeys are free every weekday.

Light splendour in Hellisgerði until February
The splendour of the lights in Hellisgerði will live on long after Winter Festival which takes place on the first weekend in February. This hidden gem and pleasure garden of the people of Hafnarfjörður has now, during Advent, firmly established itself among the nation as an attractive garden for outdoor activities, socialising and experiences with family and friends. This beautiful garden, which until now has been largely used by residents of Hafnarfjörður, and especially during springand summer, for play and picnics, holds many stories and memories for Hafnarfjörður residents and friends of the town, and has undoubtedly created new, fond memories this Advent, both for those who knew the garden before and for those experiencing it for the first time. Recently, two cosy and welcoming greenhouses were erected on either side of Oddrúnarbær, where the magical café, Litla Álfabúðin, has been operating since 2020. There you can buy fragrant coffee, many types of exciting teas, cakes and pastries every weekend this winter.
Our garden for all
Hellisgerði is a park and a shared resource for all residents of Hafnarfjörður, and it is hoped that everyone will take an active part in protecting and looking after this beautiful natural gem, and also the splendour of lights that is open to all for the coming days and weeks as the sun begins to rise higher in the sky. Enjoy!

Winners of the light-hearted and clever treasure hunt in Hellisgerði
A light and clever treasure hunt around Hellisgerði, which residents of Hafnarfjörður and friends of the town of all ages could take part in, was repeated this year and was a resounding success, with 207 participants aged between four months and 58 years signing up! It is safe to say that the Christmas spirit was in the air this year, encouraging residents and visitors to gather safely in the warm – even magical – surroundings of Hellisgerði.

Grýla has now stirred her cauldron and drawn four winners at random from the correct entries, and four participants win a prize, just like last year. The winners will receive book prizes based on their age, as they range from 9 to 22 years old, and the winners have already been contacted.
We thank everyone who visited the Christmas Village, the Christmas Adventure in Hellisgerði and Hjartasvellið for a wonderful time!
