The Samhjálp café is open longer this winter.
A special winter opening will be held at the Samhjálp café, just like last winter. The opening will be extended by two months, running for a period of five months. All municipalities in the capital region are taking part, just as they did then. The café is for individuals with complex service needs.
The municipalities join forces with Samhjálp
Hafnarfjörður, along with the City of Reykjavík, Kópavogur, Garðabær, Mosfellsbær and Seltjarnarnes, has signed an agreement with Samhjálp for the special winter opening of the Samhjálp café. The winter opening will run from 1 November until the end of March. This is two months longer than last year.
The Samhjálp café is generally open from 10 am to 2 pm, but under the agreement, it will also be open from 2 pm to 4.30 pm every weekday. It is intended for people facing poverty for various reasons and those in need.
The café will serve coffee, milk, juice, hot soup and sandwiches with side dishes throughout its opening hours. Samhjálp also offers guests entertainment, such as film screenings and even musical performances during Advent.
Mutual help for those with complex service needs
A service survey after last winter showed that guests would like to chat more with the staff. An emphasis will be placed on creating opportunities for staff to chat. The municipalities will pay Samhjálp a total of 2.5 million per month for five months for the service. They will pay in proportion to the population of each municipality.
