Walk to School starts tomorrow

News

Tomorrow, Wednesday, 6th September, the project begins. Let's walk to school for the eleventh time in this country. The project will be launched and will formally conclude with an international Let's walk to school the day. The project runs for almost a month, until 4 October. The aim of the project is to encourage children to adopt active mode of travel to and from school and to improve their ability to travel safely in traffic.

One of the simplest ways to increase physical activity in your daily life is to choose an active mode of transport, such as walking, cycling, running, roller skating, skateboarding or something else. The benefits are not only limited to mental and physical well-being, but it is also an environmentally friendly and cost-effective way to get around.

Every year, millions of children in over 40 countries around the world take part in Let's walk to school in one way or another. In this country, participation has grown steadily, but in the first year there were 26 participating schools, while a total of 67 schools signed up to take part in 2016.

On the homepage Let's walk to school  is all the further information about the project, where you can find, among other things, some schools in Iceland's fun implementations of the project, as well as various other material from the participating schools.
