Spring clean is underway – let's take part
Street, pavement and footpath sweeping in Hafnarfjörður has begun. Sweeping started at around the same time last year, but the weather has been very favourable for spring work in recent days and weeks, and the outlook is good. As before, the town is divided into 15 districts, and these are signposted the day before sweeping with notice of the planned operation. At the same time, the town's traffic islands are also cleaned.
Sweeping of streets, pavements and footpaths in Hafnarfjörður began some time ago, but a targeted and regular sweep of the town has now commenced. The centre of Hafnarfjörður has been swept and will be swept particularly thoroughly over the weekend, and immediately after the weekend, targeted and organised sweeping within the neighbourhoods will begin. Last year, sweeping started around the same time, but the weather has been very favourable for spring work over the past few days and weeks, and the outlook is promising. As before, the town is divided into 14 districts, and these are signposted the day before sweeping with notice of the planned operation. At the same time, the town's traffic islands are being washed.
Let's take an active part and ensure a good sweep!
We ask residents to take an active part so that the results are as good as possible. It is essential that the streets are clear of cars on the day they are swept, so that the kerb edges can be swept. Residents and business staff can take the opportunity to sweep around their own premises. This will make the whole area look much tidier.
Zonal redistribution of suction
A work schedule is followed which includes sweeping all neighbourhoods between 13th April and 4th May. The schedule can be seen in the image below, and residents can plan their own garden and outdoor areas according to this schedule. The work plan is subject to change, primarily due to weather (frost) and delays with the contractor responsible for the sweeping. A small street sweeper accompanies the large street sweeper in the neighbourhoods. The kerb-sweeper vehicle is responsible for all street kerbs where the street sweeper cannot reach, as well as sweeping pavements. The kerb-sweeper therefore tries to follow the same schedule as the street sweeper but may take longer to complete its work. Each neighbourhood is signposted the day before, announcing the sweep for the following day.
