Work at the Hafnarfjörður Work Camp begins on 11 June.

In the summer of 2019, 14–16-year-olds (born 2003–2005) will be employed at the Hafnarfjörður Work School. All age groups start work on 11 June. The town centre group, which consists of older youths, has already begun work, but all 17-year-olds were offered jobs at the summer work programme this summer. 14-year-olds work every other week, one week in the morning and the next in the afternoon, from Monday to Thursday. The work is closed on Fridays. Morning sessions are from 9 am to 12 pm, and afternoon sessions from 1 pm to 4 pm. 15 and 16-year-olds have variable working hours. 14-year-olds work 79 hours this summer, 15-year-olds 101 hours, and 16-year-olds get 123 hours.

Projects of the Hafnarfjörður Work Camp

The Work Club primarily deals with environmental matters, thus playing a major role in cleaning the town after a heavy winter and maintaining the vegetation, streets and footpaths throughout the summer. The staff of the Work Club play the important role of creating the town's appearance, ensuring it is clean and tidy, and not least, pleasant for residents and the increasing number of tourists who visit.

Salary
16-year-olds are paid 835 kr. per hour, plus holiday pay. It is very important that 16-year-olds let us know if they intend to use their tax card so that no tax is deducted. 15-year-olds will be paid 627 kr. per hour, plus holiday pay. 14-year-olds will be paid 555 kr. per hour, plus holiday pay. Holiday pay (10.17%) is paid to all age groups.

The rules of the Hafnarfjörður Work Camp apply equally during working hours and during social activities organised by the camp:

1. A foreman is a supervisor at a workplace. His next superior is a superintendant.
2. All staff are to be hard-working, punctual, honest and courteous.
3. Illness and other absences must be reported to the Vinnuskólinn office as soon as possible by a guardian.
4. The use of tobacco is prohibited. The same applies to alcohol and other drugs.
5. Shop and store runs are not permitted during working hours, including coffee breaks.
6. Employees must keep the workplace tidy and clean, and take good care of the tools used.
7. Staff are liable for any relevant costs if they commit acts of vandalism to the property of the Work School and others.
8. During coffee breaks, staff are expected to have a healthy and good lunch. Energy drinks and fizzy drinks are not permitted.
9. The use of mobile phones is not permitted during working hours. The same applies to iPods/MP3 players unless permission is granted by the team leader.
10. All employees provide their own protective clothing and are responsible for their own clothes and belongings.
