The Hafnarfjörður Summer School decided this summer to introduce the Green Flag, an international project to increase environmental education and strengthen education for sustainability. The Work School now sorts all its rubbish and uses food scraps for composting. An environmental group of young people was established, and the group organised an educational programme for the Work School's staff, including sessions in the staff canteen for the City of Hafnarfjörður.

Staff at the Work Club office and the environmental group held weekly meetings over the summer, acting as an environmental council and making suggestions for improvements. Yesterday, a representative from Landvernd visited the Work School, reviewed the summer's reports and confirmed that the Hafnarfjörður Work School will receive the Green Flag for the first time.

At the beginning of June 2016, when the Work Club's activities resume, a Green Flag ceremony will be held where the Work Club will be presented with the flag. The Work Club's environmental group and management deserve a great deal of praise for their hard work this summer.
