The Christmas town of Hafnarfjörður gets a head start on the Christmas festivities, opening the Christmas Village in Hafnarfjörður with a festive programme on Thorsplani on Friday, 17th November. The Christmas Village opens at 5 p.m. and the programme on stage begins at 6 p.m. The Christmas lights on the Cuxhaven tree will be switched on at 6:30 p.m., illuminating the Christmas Village in Hafnarfjörður for December.

The Christmas town of Hafnarfjörður gets a head start on the Christmas festivities, opening the Christmas Village in Hafnarfjörður with a festive programme on Thorsplani on Friday, 17th November. The Christmas Village opens at 5 p.m. and the programme on stage begins at 6 p.m. The voice of Christmas in Hafnarfjörður, singer Rakel Björk Björnsdóttir of the band Þeyr, will be among those performing at the opening ceremony. In addition to her, the stage will feature the Hafnarfjörður Wind Orchestra, the male choir Þrestir, Lil Curly and Háski, and Sigríður Thorlacius and Guðmundur Óskar Guðmundsson. The German Ambassador to Iceland, Clarissa Duvigneau, the Mayor of Hafnarfjörður, Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir, and Wilhelm Eitzen, chairman of the Cuxhaven-Hafnarfjörður twinning association, will light the Christmas tree at 18:30. The Christmas tree is, as before, a gift from Cuxhaven, Hafnarfjörður's 35-year-old twin town in Germany, and will illuminate the Christmas Village in Hafnarfjörður in December.

The Christmas Village in Hafnarfjörður will be open every weekend in the run-up to Christmas; Fridays from 5 pm to 8 pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 1 pm to 6 pm.  The Christmas Village is a hive of life and activity, and the beautifully decorated houses of Hafnarfjörður have long been nationally renowned for a variety of exciting gifts, gourmet treats, handicrafts and design.
