Thirteen projects receive cultural grants

The Culture and Tourism Committee of Hafnarfjörður today awarded grants from the second round of cultural grants for 2018. Thirteen projects received a grant on this occasion.

The Culture and Tourism Committee of Hafnarfjörður today awarded grants from the second round of cultural grants for 2018. Thirteen projects received a grant this time; individuals, cultural groups or organisations, all of which have one thing in common: they are connected to Hafnarfjörður in one way or another. Cultural and Tourism Committee grants from the City of Hafnarfjörður are awarded twice a year to individuals and projects that are likely to further enrich and deepen the city's cultural life. 

The following received cultural grants this time:

Spiccato Autumn Leaves – a concert at Hafnarborg 190,000 kr.
Guðbjörg Pálsdóttir Mermaids at Christmas, concerts in Hafnarfjörður during Advent 2018 240,000 kr.
Ragnar Már Jónsson Festive Jazz in Hafnarfjörður – concert    65,000 kr.
The Flensburg Choir Flensburg Choir's Anniversary Concert 325,000 kr.
Ultimate Duo Duo Ultima: a concert featuring works by French composers 100,000 kr.
Hafnarfjörður Theatre Society The weekly 13 – the childish    70,000 kr.
Hafnarfjörður Theatre Society A Tourist Dies – a play 380,000 kr.
Christmas couple Christmas Couple – Concert 300,000 kr.
Smithsonian Collection Art exhibition 375,000 kr.
Hafnarfjörður Brass Band Concert by Pollapönk, the Öldutúnsskóli Brass Band and Choir 200,000 kr.
Sofía Sæmundsdóttir Art Days – Soffía's Open Studio 4–28 October 2018 100,000 kr.
Hafnarfjörður Theatre Society Author's course    50,000 kr.
Andrés Þ. Gunnlaugsson  Concerts  200,000 kr.

The allocation of grants by the City of Hafnarfjörður is based on an assessment of applications. Cultural events, artists, associations or institutions applying for a grant must be connected to Hafnarfjörður in some way. Examples include permanent residency, an event/project taking place in Hafnarfjörður, and/or a project involving the promotion of Hafnarfjörður's cultural activities. The total amount of grants in this allocation is kr. 2,595,000. In total, kr. 8,000,000 has now been allocated in grants for cultural activities this year.

Applications for the first 2019 cultural grants will be invited in January.
