Thirty workshops and five worlds on Worlds and Heavens

Worlds and Heavens, 4-6 September

Thirty workshops and five worlds will be on offer over the three days that the costume and gaming festival, Worlds and Heavens, runs. Five thousand people attended the first festival and ten thousand last year.

„We're planning to have laser sword training, armour-making, all sorts of crafts – and concerts, both rock and a brass band,“ says Unnur Helga Möller, events manager for Hafnarfjörður Library and the festival's executive director. She is therefore prepared for everything as this gorgeous costume festival moves into the new premises of the Hafnarfjörður Library.

„There will be photo booths, the worlds, games and shows, dance classes, runestone reading – everything we can think of that fits in with our Worlds and goes well with the costumes,“ says Unnur, as preparations for the festival are now in full swing.

„We're going to teach people how to make their own sewing gins, look at how historical dresses and metal armour are made, and then of course there's Cosplay and doll-making,“ she mentions as events at the festival.

A festival celebrating diversity

Heimar og himingeimar is a festival for everyone who enjoys costumes, games and fantasy worlds. It brings together film costumes, fantasy LARPing, historical re-enactment, Japanese cosplay, prop-making, and various types of swordplay, among other things. The festival's aim is to promote positive and developmental play for people of all ages.

At the last festival, among other things, you could see spaceships and R2-D2 robots from Star Wars, the DeLorean time-travelling car from Back to the Future and a host of colourful characters from various game and fantasy worlds. Many guests returned time and again, and the house was buzzing with life all weekend.

„There's an adventurer in all of us, and we see it as our duty to never stop playing,“ says Unnur.
