Three local artists combine their talents at the Gaflar Theatre
The Fjalar Theatre is premiering the family musical The Longest Forever on the weekend of 26th–27th February at 1 p.m. The play deals with friendship, life and death in a sincere way, but the show is full of joy, song, warmth and a heartwarming message. Some performances are already sold out, and tickets for shows in the coming weeks are on sale now.

The Fork Theatre in Hafnarfjörður The family musical 'Longest Forever' premieres on the weekend of 26th–27th February at 1 p.m. The play by Björk Jakobsdóttir, who also directs the show, is based on the award-winning books by Bergrún Íris Sævarsdóttir about the friends Eyja and Ragnar, who become best friends despite a 90-year age gap. The piece deals in a sincere way with friendship, life and death, but the show is full of joy, song, warmth and a heartwarming message. Several performances are sold out and tickets for shows in the coming weeks are on general sale.
Twelve talented actors aged seven to ten
The role of Rögnvaldur is played by Sigurður Sigurjónsson, who has taken on numerous significant roles in the country's theatres and appeared in television and countless films. Júlía Sara Gunnarsdóttir and Ásgrímur Geir Logason take on various roles, including playing Eyja's parents. Eyja herself is played by two seven-year-old prodigies, Nina Sólrún Tamimi and Iðunn Eldeyja Stefánsdóttir. In addition, ten other talented children, aged seven to ten, share roles in the production. The Gaflar Theatre has, from the outset, placed great emphasis on drama education for children and young people, and open auditions were held in the autumn of 2021. Hundreds of children attended the auditions, and it is clear that there is a great deal of interest in the performing arts among the younger generation.
A hand-picked team of artistic directors and brand-new Icelandic music
The music is composed and conducted by Máni Svavars, who has composed six new songs with lyrics by Bergrún Íris, Björk and himself. The choirmaster is Guðlaug Dröfn Ólafsdóttir and the costume designer is Eva Björg Harðardóttir. Friðþjófur Þorsteinsson is responsible for the lighting design. He also handles the set design, together with Bergrún and Björk. Graphics were designed by Bergrún Íris Sævarsdóttir. The choreography and stage movements are by Chantelle Carey.

Hafnarfjörður is known for its extensive and diverse cultural life. Sigurður Sigurjónsson, Björk Jakobsdóttir and Bergrún Íris Sævarsdóttir all share the distinction of having been appointed as the town artists of Hafnarfjörður. Sigurður on the centenary of Hafnarfjörður in 2008, Bergrún in 2020 after receiving the Icelandic Book Award in the children's and young people's book category for her book Langelstur að eilífu, and Björk Jakobsdóttir in 2019 for her significant contributions to promoting the cultural life of Hafnarfjörður and for working with young peopleki to projects that have attracted a great deal of attention.
Gaflaraleikhúsið is a group of professionals who have been running a theatre on Víkingastræti in Hafnarfjörður since 2011, creating dynamic, funny, tragic, lively and visually striking productions, with new Icelandic works always at the forefront of their programming. Gaflaraleikhúsið receives support from the Performing Arts Fund and the City of Hafnarfjörður, but agreements with these parties aim to further develop projects for young audiences within the theatre.
