A packed house and a great atmosphere greeted the 'End of a Journey' concert at the Song Festival in Hafnarborg yesterday. Before the interval, Guðrún Jóhanna Ólafsdóttir, Francisco Javier Jáuregui and Pétur Jónasson performed songs from their new album, 'Atli Heimir Sveinsson – Songs for Guitar'. After the interval, Gissur Páll Gissurarson and Ástríður Alda Sigurðardóttir performed songs by Sigvalda Kaldalóns. The concert concluded with a mass sing-along, with the audience joining in for the song 'Á íslensku' by Atli Heimir, set to lyrics by Þórarinn Eldjárn.

Master classSinger Diddú's course for singers and singing students, and music and art courses for children aged 6-9 and 10-12, will be at the festival today. On Sunday, there is Baby Singing for 6–18 month-olds. The following concerts are now remaining:

  • Thursday 27 June 2024 at 20:00. Masterclass concert. Students from Didda's masterclass and pianist Helga Bryndís Magnúsdóttir will perform songs and arias.
  • Friday 28 June 2024 at 17:00. Feathered Friends and Other Curious Creatures. A family concert. Soprano Hallveig Rúnarsdóttir, baritone Jón Svavar Jósefsson and pianist Hrönn Þráinsdóttir present a lively programme for the whole family. Free admission.
  • Saturday 29 June 2024 at 17:00. A visit from Poland. The vocal octet Simultaneo, Maria Pomianowska on the 4-string Biłgorajska fiddle and Karol Kisiel, conductor, perform new works by Anna Rocławska-Musiałczyk from Poland, Aleksandra Vrebalov from Serbia and Ugis Prauliņš from Latvia. New shades of tradition.
  • Sunday 30 June 2024 at 17:00. Opera Gala. Herdís Anna Jónasdóttir, soprano; Margrét Hrafnsdóttir, soprano; Sveinn Dúa Hjörleifsson, tenor; Hildigunnur Einarsdóttir, mezzo-soprano; Tómas Tómasson, bass; and Einar Bjartur Egilsson, pianist, perform arias and ensembles from operas by Puccini, Bernstein, Rachmaninoff, Offenbach, Bizet, Wagner, Donizetti, Bellini and Mozart.
