Two agreements have been signed between the City of Hafnarfjörður and the Hafnarfjörður Sports Association. ÍBH is an umbrella organisation for all sports clubs in Hafnarfjörður, with between 15,000 and 16,000 members, and is therefore the largest mass movement in Hafnarfjörður and a powerful platform for health promotion and upbringing.

Service contract

On the one hand, this is a service agreement which guarantees that ÍBH will continue to receive support to run its office and carry out the tasks listed in the agreement. These include, amongst other things, overseeing the management of sport, ensuring that sports clubs maintain proper accounts, maintain statistics, providing advice and support to sports clubs, running, for example, a high-performance fund, acting as a forum for all the clubs, participating in numerous collaborative projects with the City of Hafnarfjörður, and monitoring quality standards regarding the activities of sports clubs.

Cooperation agreement

However, this is a partnership agreement. This agreement is, in effect, an umbrella agreement between all sports clubs and the City of Hafnarfjörður, and is strategic for all communications and collaborative projects between these parties. The agreement ensures that sports clubs are contracted for the services they provide to the town's residents, based on the number of children who practise the respective sports and Hafnarfjörður's share of the running and maintenance of sports facilities. The agreement ensures that the sports clubs, on behalf of the HIB, receive training and competition time in the municipality's sports facilities. The agreement includes a clause whereby the City of Hafnarfjörður commits to participating in the development of sports facilities in line with the development and wishes of the sports clubs. The agreement establishes a financial oversight committee to review and analyse the finances and operations of the sports clubs. Through this agreement, a formal arrangement is made for the establishment of an independent expert panel in Hafnarfjörður to address disputes and issues raised by sports clubs in Hafnarfjörður concerning matters related to violence, including sexual violence and bullying.
