Outdoor Hammer introduces outdoor activities and hiking to young people.
Úti-Hamarinn is a project run by the youth centre Hamarinn, which is about introducing young people to the great outdoors and hiking. The project runs for eight weeks, with a light walk taking place once a week, every Thursday at five o'clock. In the final week, a longer walk with an overnight stay is undertaken. Úti-Hamarinn, which was launched as a pilot project this spring, is starting again this autumn.
Outdoor Hammer is a project by The Hammer's Youth Club which is about introducing young people to the outdoors and hiking. Nature experience, empowerment and self-empowerment
In spring 2021, the project was launched for the first time and the implementation was conceived as a pilot project. Walks were undertaken, for example, to Stórhöfði, Búrfellsgjá, Reykjadalur, Úlfarsfell and Helgafell, with the aim of training for Fimmvörðuháls, which was then walked on 24 June. Attendance at Úti-Hamarinn was good and the project was well received. Eleven young people and project staff walked together through Reykjadalur in wonderful weather this summer. Five people walked over Fimmvörðuháls. The walk was an outstanding success, leaving a feeling of accomplishment and joy with all participants. Úti-Hamarinn works according to a philosophy of nature experience, empowerment and self-strengthening. At the same time, the project is a platform for introducing young people to the great outdoors. Many people are interested and curious but don't know what it takes to get started with outdoor activities, or are not aware of the routes and opportunities available. Everything is done to keep costs down, and the only thing required to take part is to turn up.
