Vegan festival on sunny Sunday, 31 August

The health town of Hafnarfjörður goes vegan for a day

„This is a great opportunity to see that veganism is not a diet or a fad, but a lifestyle. This is a festival that celebrates this beautiful lifestyle and welcomes everyone, regardless of class or status,“ says Aldís Amah Hamilton, chairperson of the Vegan Society of Iceland. „Perfect for the children, the grandmas and grandpas… everyone in between, of course.“

The organisation, in collaboration with the City of Hafnarfjörður, is hosting a family fun day and food festival at Thorsplani in Hafnarfjörður on Sunday, 31 August 2025, from 13:00 to 16:00.

„We'll have the best food in the capital area for sale! There will also be businesses offering home and beauty products. And there are two bouncy castles for different age groups,“ says Aldís.

„The bigger one was a real hit last time and was packed out, but we're keeping a watchful eye so that no one gets hurt. We'll also have entertainment,“ says Aldís encouragingly, as the festival is now being held for the ninth time.

„This is great fun. The turnout is always good. I hear nearly 1,000 people attended last year. The attendance was so good that the food practically sold out! Families had a great time together, and it's wonderful that we get to see out the summer in this way.“

Aldís looks forward to August being a time for outdoor festivals; the National Day, Pride, Culture Night and the Vegan Festival, the cherry on top at the end of Blue Month. „Major festivals, and then there's us. We don't hold back,“ she says, encouraging anyone who wants to know more about veganism, and particularly about vegan food options, to come along.

„Yes, to get to know this amazing old stuff that's available to everyone every day of the year,“ she says.

„It's also always good weather at the Vegan Festival – we don't expect anything else now. Bring sun cream.“
