Agreement with VÍS on the municipality's insurance

Towards the end of 2020, the Municipality of Hafnarfjörður invited tenders for both legal and contractual insurance, and other insurance for the municipality and its affiliated parties. Tenders were opened on Friday, 4 December 2020, and it emerged that Vátryggingarfélag Íslands hf. (VÍS) had the lowest tender. Three parties submitted a tender. 

All loss adjustment services for staff, institutions and clients

At the end of 2020, specifically on Wednesday, 30 December, the Mayor of Hafnarfjörður, Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir, and Reynir Leósson, Head of Corporate at VÍS, signed a three-year agreement for insurance business. The agreement is valid from 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2023, with the option to extend twice for one year at a time. Thus, during the 2021-2023 period, VÍS will insure the interests of the City of Hafnarfjörður and its affiliated entities. Related parties are the Housing Office of Hafnarfjörður, Hafnarfjörður Harbour, Hafnarborg, Hafnarfjörður Waterworks, Skarðshlíð Housing Association Ltd and Heimilin Housing Association Ltd. VÍS has therefore, from 1 January 2021, managed all loss adjustment services for and on behalf of these entities. The service applies equally to staff, institutions and customers, and whether or not claims fall under the excess. The parties also commit to a close partnership on prevention during the term of the agreement, and VÍS will provide the City of Hafnarfjörður and its affiliated parties with prevention services free of charge.  

The agreement was presented for final presentation and approval in to the Hafnarfjörður Town Council yesterday, on Thursday, 28 January, but the town council approved on their meeting on 05.11.2021 to put out to tender insurance for the City of Hafnarfjörður and referred to work in the finance department.
