Growing your own is a rewarding project for the whole family.

The Healthy City of Hafnarfjörður is giving all households in Hafnarfjörður a summer gift as a symbol of prosperity, growth and well-being. The gift is intended to make residents of Hafnarfjörður pause, breathe easily, live in the present moment and reflect on the importance of self-sufficiency in every sense. It is a seed pack containing five seeds of herbs to grow at home. Home growing is a rewarding activity for the whole family. Four years ago, the residents of Hafnarfjörður were sent a health-promoting deck of cards, which was very well received. The seed packet, which will be delivered, among other places, to all homes in Hafnarfjörður that accept bulk mail, contains a mix of herbs and has an estimated germination time of 10-20 days. It is also planned to provide seeds for growing to leisure centres and the senior classes of nurseries.

Let's get moving, eat healthily, grow ourselves and a few herbs along the way!

The Fairy Town of Hafnarfjörður

One of the main aims of the Healthy City of Hafnarfjörður is to encourage residents to take good care of their mental and physical well-being and health. As such, the health town has adopted the practice of regularly introducing residents to health-promoting ideas and information about the opportunities that lie in the Hafnarfjörður hinterland and in the outdoor gems and areas found throughout the town.

An ambitious health strategy for the health town of Hafnarfjörður

The Municipality of Hafnarfjörður entered into an agreement with the Office of the Director of Public Health in March 2015 to participate in the 'Health Promoting Community' project, and the municipality, in collaboration with residents, staff and other stakeholders have developed the City of Hafnarfjörður's health strategy and put forward an action plan that directly addresses the strategy. One of the main objectives of the Health Strategy for Hafnarfjörður is to foster the general well-being of residents, both mental and physical, at all ages, and to strengthen and promote self-esteem and good mental health. The health strategy supports the City of Hafnarfjörður's vision for the future of increasing the well-being of its residents through preventative measures.
